Epiphany

After several weeks of busy-ness, everyone else is going back to routines of school, work, and the normal after holiday blues. We on the other hand as a family have yet to exchange gifts. That will happen come Saturday the 8th of January, when we recognize Epiphany. For those of you who don't know us, we like to be different. Weird. Eccentric. Several years ago, five to be exact, we were finding no joy whatsoever in the holiday hustle and bustle. We had tried to downscale by giving only three gifts to each immediate family member and that was helpful but the season still seemed rather empty and fruitless to us (other than the fruitcakes we would receive as gifts). We met a family who had chosen to exchange gifts on Three Kings Day (aka Epiphany), thus eliminating the pressure of being ready for the holiday, and enjoying the season instead. We decided to try it, with the kids reluctantly going along for the ride. It still is a rough transition. We recognize the significance of December 25th by enjoying a meal with friends and family, and then the 12 days in between Christmas and Epiphany we are supposed to give gifts to unsuspecting individuals, and focus on Jesus. Sadly we have failed this year to be still enough to do any of this. The moral of the story is, be kind to your families. If you are going to get married, don't do it during the holiday rush, unless of course your family is one that is hyper organized and is able to micro-manage every single minute of every day. For those of you who know us well, organization is not our strong suite. So as of today, I am going to start getting ready for Jesus' birthday celebration....for next year.
*Note: Epiphany is officially recognized as January 6th. Due to Niah's involvement in a certain class required to drive the highways and byways of this great country, we are postponing our celebration until the 8th of January as previously mentioned in this post.
