Isaiah has a new love. It is an orange life preserver. This device allows him to launch himself off the end of the dock, plunge into brackish lake water, and then bob to the surface. It is the coolest thing ever to him. He is enjoying his swims in the tepid lake that my brother's house overlooks.
My brother, a former pastor, emt, microbiologist, nervously paces the shoreline whilst Isaiah is swimming. He anxiously calls, "You're too far out, come in a little!" Sometimes his words are jumbled and a bit confused, but his concern is evident. Isaiah turns and paddles towards us, and Kerry sighs in relief. In these lucid moments I thank him for his concern. He simply says; "I love him."
I love my brother.
